Paper Textures

Photo restoration can even improve photo quality beyond the original print! A lot of photos from the 1970s, 80s and even 90s were printed on a honeycomb textured paper. When restoring photos we now use computer processes like FFT to remove this texture that obscures fine details. This style of print was so ubiquitous in my childhood that I never questioned it. One of the benifts to this paper is that it doesnt easily retain fingerprints the way that glossy photo prints sometimes can. That may be the primary purpose of it's development and certainly lead to it becoming so popular.
